Lot 1583
Byzantine Weights, Circa 5th-6th century. Weight of 1 Nomisma (Bronze, 14x15 mm, 4.24 g), a square coin weight for a solidus made from an issue from Amisos (circa 85-65 BC). Aegis. Rev. [AM]I-Σ[OY] Nike advancing right, holding palm frond tied with fillet over her left shoulder. HGC 7, 242. Pitted, otherwise, fine.

What makes this solidus weight especially interesting is that it was made from a coin which was, at that time, already at least half a millenium old!
